The villain picks the Heroine up, put her in a Lone place and the Hero rescues Her... This is it...., This Grammer had even been followed in Ramayana...
Then it wont be a wrong statement anymore

(1) Its not new for Mani Ratnam to route His line from Epics... But not Raavan for the very Reason, except Ragini, rest all don't resemble the Epic and I would say all are Brain-children of Mani
(2) Mani will always have His presence marked every genre He covers and this act had been clearly done in Raavan....
I would bring it down by saying
Raavan is an Epic in its own style
